RES Software Veidec Racing Team rider Arie Vos finished the World Supersport Championship race at Magny-Cours in 15th position, after proceedings were stopped with a red flag with two laps to go. Team mate Jesco Günther had to retire his Honda CBR600RR after struggling with technical problems at the French track.
Arie’s team gave him a strong bike at Magny-Cours and he managed to put in some good practice sessions. The Dutch rider started the 19-lap race from 18th place on the grid and felt confident to ride for points, but Vos couldn’t latch on to the fast group in front of him. Two laps before the end of the race there was a crash between Michele Pirro and Olivier Four, which spilled oil on the track so the race stopped and Vos was 15th with 1 point.
RES Software Veidec Racing Team rider Jesco Günther rode 12 laps on his Honda, when he noticed he had problems again with the clutch. Günther had to curtail his race, which was won by Kawasaki’s Joan Lascorz, and returned to the pitbox.
Milan Milovanovic, team owner:
“I am happy that we managed a World Supersport point with Arie, but our expectations for this race were higher. Arie had problems catching up with a fast group ahead and so he couldn’t get his bike closer to the front. However, he made some good progress with his machine this weekend and that’s what we have to take with us to the next race in Portimão. Jesco came into the garage because of machine problems again. There is not too much I can say about it and I really hope that during the last race luck will be more on our side."
Arie Vos, 15th place:
“First of all I want to thank my mechanics because they did a very good job this weekend. We had a lot of stress just before the race because my bike had a technical problem and it wasn’t clear what was wrong. Just 2 minutes before the pitlane was open, my mechanics solved it and I could go out. Unfortunately the race did not go as I expected. I had a bad start, got caught in a slow group and was battling to get away from them. The race was stopped because there was oil on the track and a lot of riders crashed, including myself. In the end I came home 15th, but the point I scored is 100% for my team. They deserved it this weekend and I hope I can give them some points again in Portimão!”
Jesco Günther, DNF:
“I am so disappointed about this race weekend that I really don’t know what to say anymore. Before I went to Magny-Cours I was very positive and determined to show my potential this weekend. But as has happened so often, I struggled with a lot of technical problems again. First the gearbox broke, then the clutch, and in the race it was the clutch again which forced me to return to the garage. All I can say is that I will be putting all my hopes on a good result for the last round of the year.” |
